Best Time To Visit Kedarkantha Trek – A Visit To The Four Seasons With TrekYaari

When we begin to think about winter treks in India, Kedarkantha is always the first thing that comes to our mind and it’s not without reason at all! Nestled in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarakhand, this trek has literally got all that a hill lover desires – snow laden trails, desolate campsites, beautiful pine forests and a summit view that will etch your heart leaving you absolutely dumbstrucked. But, as in every good action story, everything has its time. So What is the Best Time to Go Kedarkantha Trek?

We, at TrekYaari have led hundreds of trekkers on this blockbuster trail all year long. And we’re here to help you decide when to go for Kedarkanatha based on what you’re looking for —snow, solitude, convenience or the blossoming of the trails.

6- Winter (Volnay- December to mid-April) – Snow Trek Classic Experience

There is no doubt that winter is the best season for Kedarkantha trek.

Kedarkantha turns into a winter wonderland, from mid-December to the beginning of April. Glistening with thick, white snow, pine trees shimmer with frost, and with every step, it’s as if you’re walking into a storybook. This is also around the time when TrekYaari’s winter batches are in full throttle.

Why Choose Winter?

White as a White-washed Wall: Juda Ka Talab to the summit, and everything White.

Beginner friendly: Despite the snow, the mild difficulty level – it’s great for first time skaters.

Magical Summit Sunrise: Watching that sun rise over the snowy peaks is something you will never forget.

High on Trekking Vibes: You will fondle with trekkers from different parts of India exchanging bonfires, stories, and chai in the backdrop of star studded sky.

TrekYaari Winter Tip:

We have snow gaiters, microspikes, and warm sleeping bags for our trekkers to be comfortable even in arctic temperature. Our guides provide security on icy segments and tough climbs.

Spring (mid-April – early June) – Abundant flowers, warm temperatures, clear days

A new beauty populates Kedarkantha, when snow all but vanishes by mid-April. The trails are decorated with the blooms of rhododendrons and other flowers, the forests are abuzz with bird song, and the temperatures grow pleasantly warm.

Spring is an excellent time to trek — no freezing evenings and no icy trails. You can also relax at your clippies without bundling up.

Why Choose Spring?

Red and Pink Dragon: Your trail is covered with beautiful red and pink rhododendrons.

Cool weather: Days are between 10-15 C and at night chilly and nippy but not cold.

Quieter Scenes: In winters most of the people sign up for treks, in Spring treks are peaceful and less crowded.

#himalayas Clear Skies: The best time to shoot the mountains as the sky is clean and clear.

TrekYaari Spring Tip:

Groups are better in spring, families as well and for the solo trekkers for whom nature beckons more than challenge. TrekYaari is also about carrying a lighter backpack, pace set exclusively for you and photography walks with special guides.

Monsoon & Early Autumn (July – September) – Not to be visited.

Kedarkantha Trek can be trekked almost in all months except monsoon. During the months of July to September, this region gets substantial rainfall, the peaks remain layered in mist with dangerously slick trails, impregnable jungle-clad foothills and barrier infested leech infested forested foot hills.

And then there are the streetlamps blocking sightlines of the landscape above, and the terrain gets more difficult; there are landslides, and the mud has no grip.

Why Avoid Monsoon?

Poor sight of trail and risk of falling.

Delayed journeys due to rain and landslide's.

Cloudy and foggy; we would have missed the summit views regardless.

TrekYaari Advice:

For your own safety we do not run Kedarkantha treks in Monsoon/Monsoon onset months. On the contrary, we recommend to go with monsoon suitable treks like Valley of Flowers or Hampta Pass.

Autumn (October to Mid-November) – The Well Kept Secret!

Monsoon clouds lose the power by end of September or early October and Kedarkantha becomes invincible again. Autumn ushers in gorgeous gold-brown woodlands, cool-stingy air and the possibility of snow as early as late November.

It’s a great moment for anyone who craves a healthy dose of solitude combined with some adventure. It is nowhere near as cold as the heart of winter, when the snow would be heavier and daylight scantier.

Why Choose Autumn?

GOLDEN FORESTS: These are broad-leafed pine trees and the pine forests go golden amber and yellow ochre.

Early Snow: Some people spot snowfall in late November.

Best for Nature Lovers: You can see wildlife more easily, and the forests are alive with the post-monsoon bloom.

TrekYaari Autumn Tip:

Book in advance — the October lots are tiny, and this secret season is going viral. The Autumn treks organised by TrekYaari also has sessions on night photography, stargazing as an optional activity!
